I’ll be honest right from the start, I was NOT in any way wanting to cloth diaper my baby. The idea of cleaning a cloth diaper was not something I could see myself doing. Then I researched what was going to be on my baby girls skin the moment she was out of me. Organic cloth diapers were about to make their way into my home, and on my baby girls bottom.
Chemicals, toxic, harmful chemicals are loaded into these great, easy disposable diapers. What a shock it was to me. I thought maybe some would be in there, but nothing like I found.
To start, Dioxin, it is a byproduct of bleaching with chlorine to get those diapers nice and white. The downside, it causes liver disease, immune system suppression, and genetic damage.
Sodium Polyacrylate, sound familiar to us women? It was linked to TSS in our tampons. If you have ever changed a diaper before and found round clear like balls on the baby’s bottom, that would be this toxic chemical.
Urinary track infections in baby girls, of which a girlfriend of mine had that problem 3 times with her baby girl, then found out it was from her diapers.
There are more and more chemicals I can list. After just reading one of them, I made the decision to use cloth on my girl. I checked out how to use organic cloth diapers, which turned out to be A LOT easier than what I thought, and found the right system for my family. It’s so easy, even my husband doesn’t mind changing her diapers. They are safe, super easy to use, cute as can be, and they save us a lot of money.
